Performance Improvement Plan

If an employee is not performing as expected, it is the leader’s role to provide coaching. This starts by reviewing the job description with the employee to ensure there is a clear understanding of the expectations of the position. Perhaps more training is needed, or the employee did not understand the requirements. However, if the performance does not improve it may be time to consider a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).  This PowerPoint document provides a visual summary of the escalation process needed to either get the employee back on track or provide the tracking of the steps followed which may include termination. See lesson fifteen of my book “Up from the Crowd” for more details on implementing this process.
